It has come to our attention that some of your clients may have received letters and SMS messages from SARS alerting them to debt that is in arrears. In most cases, this is not factual. SARS has issued a notice to the RCBs regarding this issue which states the following:
“We are aware that some of your members and their clients have received either a SMS or an E Mail indicating that certain accounts are in arrears. As these were sent in error, you are requested to notify your members to please ignore these messages.”
We urge our members to check their clients’ IT34s and use discretion when dealing with these letters and SMSs.
Mark Kingon (office of the Group Executive relationship management at SARS) spoke about this issue on CapeTalk and Radio 702 on Friday 3 November. Access the interview by clicking on the following link: http://www.capetalk.co.za/articles/279130/sars-apologizes-for-technical-glitch-in-tax-return-sms
